April Ross

April Ross is one of just a handful of female beach volleyball players to win medals at more than one Olympics. Alix Klineman, playing for the first time in Tokyo's Olympics is hoping to secure her third Olympic medal. Ross hopes to win more than her initial Olympic medal. Since she's 39 years old, it may be her last chance. She remains optimistic that she will be able to win top awards. If we play our top or perform well, I think we'll be able to win that gold medal Ross stated on NBC Boston. So I'm going to take some luck too. Ross born in 1982, and grew up within Costa Mesa California with her siblings and parents, started participating in sports at Newport Harbor High School. Along with competing in various sport, she also attended Newport Harbor High School. She competed in basketball and track in addition to her indoor volleyball achievements as a pre-collegiate athlete. In her final game she stood out. The college bio says that she was an outside-hitting hitter, middle blocker, as well as a setter during her volleyball career in high school. The award was presented to her as by the Gatorade National Circle of Champions Player of the year in 1999 due to her accomplishments. The year 2000 was the time she won an Orange County Athlete of the year award for volleyball. Ross and Klineman began their partnership in 2017, However, Ross has been a beach celebrity for a long time prior to. As a matter of fact Ross has won a number of significant tournaments during her time together with two other partners. One of them is a volleyball legend. Jennifer Kessy coached her from 2007 until 2013. Along with Kessy Ross, she won a World Title in 2009 while competing on the international circuit. They won a Silver Medal at the 2012 Olympic Games held in London. They were beaten out for the gold by the legendary duo of Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh (Jennings). Ross Jennings took over for May-Treanor after she had retired. They went on to compete for the bronze beach volleyball medal in the Rio Olympics 2016. They were joined by Walsh Jennings. Following high school, and for a few years before she hit the sand professionally, Ross balled out for the USC Trojans as an collegiate. The time she spent at USC was quite impressive. In her first year at the school, 2000 saw her earn the Pac-10 and NCAA Freshman's of the Award and also be named an All-American. The Trojans could also reach the Final Four with her help. In her sophomore season she suffered a devastating personal loss and still managed to earn the honor of being named an All-American. The last two years with the Trojans' program the team was led to victories by winning successive national titles. She was a fantastic volleyball player and won the Honda Sports Award in 2003-04 as the top female volleyball player in the NCAA. Ross took a course in International Relations at USC. Margie Ross, Ross' mother, never had the privilege of watching Ross' daughter blossom into a beach volleyball superstar. When Ross was a sophomore at USC her mother passed away due to breast cancer. She has kept her parents close to her heart. Margie remains a source of inspiration, both off and on of the shore.
