Dolly Parton, born Jan. 19th, 1946 in Locust Ridge Tenn. to 12 children from a poor family children who would grow up with them eventually. She learned young how to overcome of difficulties by using her rich and vivid imagination. Even before learning to read or write and compose her own songs. Her first guitar was given to her at the age of eighteen. The singer began her singing career at an Knoxville Tenn station by the age of 11. She recorded her first album during the same year with Gold Band Records, a small label that was an independent. In high school she was able to establish herself within the school community but her dream was greater. She relocated to Nashville the day after graduating in 1964. Dumb Blonde (1967) and Something Fishy (1968) were her two first charting albums on Monument Records. The syndicated television show of Porter Wagoner required a new singer at around the time. Parton took the job in 1966, joined RCA Records in 1968, and the Grand Ole Opry was founded in 1969. The band split in 1974 when her solo hits like Joshua Coat of Many Colors & Jolene oversold her collaborations. Parton composed I Will Always Love You for Wagoner after their breakup.
